Our Philosophy

"Icône was born out of a sheer love of design and the quest for all things gorgeous which have an 'iconic' look and feel and look as good today as they will 50 years from now - they are quite simply timeless."

It is so easy to place literally thousands of products for sale on the internet as the 'shop window' is vast. However, the aim of this site is to be selective about the products and therefore we only choose those products that we consider the discerning buyer would want to live with. We don't want our customers to have to trawl through product after product looking for that iconic piece which truly represents quality and emanates design genius; rather we have dedicated this whole site to products which have an 'iconic' look and feel and which have been designed by truly innovative and talented designers. So your problem will not be trying to find the proverbial 'needle in a haystack' rather it will be trying to choose which one NOT to buy!

We have arranged the site so that you can shop by brand, designer or product, whichever you prefer. We have also tried to give you a little background about the products and the designer which we hope will help you to select what you want more easily.

Loyalty deserves a reward
We are also very loyal to those customers who are loyal to us and we intend to offer a reward scheme very soon. Anything that you buy today, will be logged and you will be able to use this purchase as part of the scheme when it comes on-line.

The Founders of Icône

The founders of Icône are Phil Newson and Jackie Clarke who live and work together. As well as creating Icône, the couple also run a very successful graphic design consultancy in Derby called burnthebook who were responsible for the design and build of this site.

Both Phil and Jackie have a shared passion for good design and over the years have collected pieces of furniture and lighting for their own home, many which are featured on this site. Icône was first conceived in 2003 and has been 2 years in the planning. It is Phil and Jackie's genuine love for quality and innovative design in general which lead them to create Icône as they are both convinced of the need to make it easier for everyone to access good design home products, and not just the few. At the same time, this site aims to raise the profile of some of the world’s most influential and innovative designers, dating as far back as Bauhaus. In fact, many of the products you will find on this site are not necessarily 'high volume' sellers, but are here because they are 'icons' or are destined to be and are works of art in their own right.
